What I Wore When I Loved Skirts And Dresses

NEW skirts dresses

As is common around here, we have had a cold spring, and then we were gifted with a week of glorious weather. But don’t worry, it snowed 2 days after the 85 degree weather, so we are back to cold spring. But for that week, I took advantage of the spectacular days and pulled out my skirts and dresses.

I love to wear skirts and dresses casually instead of shorts. Since I don’t wear anything shorter than the top of my knee, shorts can be hard. There is nothing edgy or cool about Bermuda shorts. I’m not saying I don’t wear them, because I do. Shorts are so easy and convenient and comfortable on hot days, but a skirt or dress is even breezier, and can be just as comfortable and easy.

In fact, they can be easier. You automatically look more dressed and put together with a skirt or dress. Shorts are a lot more casual, and it can be hard to look put together. If you struggle with feeling good in shorts, this could be your answer.

Skirt (I chose the petite length even though I have long legs because I wanted it to come just under my knees). Similar jacket. Links to similar shirt, earrings, and sandals available in the Stunning Style Spring Wardrobe Guide.

Gingham is such a classic pattern, and I wear it year-round. Paired with a bold green jacket, it’s very fresh and springy. A denim skirt is a great substitute for denim shorts, and they come in a variety of lengths. I actually dyed this one dark blue because it was a medium blue with whiskering.

I’ve had this navy and white striped dress for a few years, and I wear it a lot in the summers. It’s so easy to throw on and be dressed. No thinking, no pairing, just done. And, it has pockets! Since this is a knit they mostly lay flat, and I love the convenience.

A simple navy dress is a workhorse in the spring and summer wardrobe. It can be dressed so many ways. Today I paired it with another blue hue, and to make sure I didn’t look too dressed up, I chose some shiny silver flip flops. Wedges would dress it up a bit more.

As a style blogger, there is this pressure to never repeat outfits. But because I share my real, everyday outfits, I’ve decided that’s not something I’m going to do. It would mean not wearing outfits I love ever again. It would mean constantly buying new things. It would mean possibly being inauthentic because I’m trying so hard to be new and fresh. So, this is a repeat from a few weeks ago because I love this outfit. I plan to wear it again in the near future. I could have worn a different necklace and shoes, but I didn’t this time. Next time I will. Maybe. If I feel like it.

We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary! 15 years! In this post I showed four ways to wear this sheath dress, and I have indeed worn it four times this month. This week I wore it again for our anniversary, and styled it yet another way. This is another edgier look for a very versatile dress. The leather sleeves and collar plus the zipper details make the trench edgy. The snake skin clutch adds some subtle edge as well. I wore silver sandals instead of nude as my neutral (you can read more about that here). I also kept the jewelry simple as I wanted the trench and dress to be my focal points. This sapphire pendant necklace was a gift from my husband for our third wedding anniversary.
