The last week has been a continuation of the whirlwind of the last few weeks. Fresh off of the painting project (I’m sharing pictures this time!) and having company, I had a week to finalize all back-to-school preparations, the closing date on our house in Atlanta moved up, our plans to go see the solar eclipse were cancelled, and school started! Lots of big things were happening, and some days it was hard to know where to start first. We survived the craziness, the kids are back in school, and it’s time to get settled into a new routine.
I finally finished painting the house, and I’m sharing pictures below! I’ve spent the day doing back-to-school errands like swim team tryouts, coach meetings, hair cuts and picking up new glasses for my youngest. It’s been a busy day, and it’s not over yet. I’m still on a black and white kick. I have the zip front version of this top in a few colors, but when I saw the stripes…sold. They are bogo 50% right now, and it comes in several bold colors. Denim jackets are classic. I have had this one for 13 years, and I have never once thought I needed a different one because I chose a classic cut in a dark wash, which is the wash I prefer, and it has just enough stretch to make it very comfortable and easy to wear. If you find the one, it’s worth investing in it because you will have it forever. Your perfect jacket may not look like mine, so don’t limit yourself to what I like, what your best friend likes, or what is currently in style. Dark wash isn’t the trendiest color now, but it’s perfect for me and my wardrobe, and it always will be. I do advise against super trendy details like a cropped length or a weird sleeve length, unless cropped is your forever favorite or you don’t mind updating every few years.
I have a date with my husband tonight, so I changed into pants and added a jacket because restaurants are cold. I know it’s not fall yet, but I have missed the layers and all the outfit options it brings. I hate cold weather, but love the clothes. Every day is bring your kids to work day at my office, but today is the annual event at my husband’s office, so the kids and I are here for 4 hours of sugar, pizza, and mayhem. Then I got to take them on a few errands while they were all hopped up on sugar. There was a snow cone station, a cotton candy station, candy everywhere, treat bags full of candy and cookies, a soda machine, pizza for lunch, video games, and more. Today is the last Saturday before school starts, so we are doing some final errands and prep at home. I needed comfortable and functional. My seasonal allergies have really kicked in, the drain of pushing through to the end did me in, and I spent half the day in bed, went to bed at 7 p.m., and stayed in bed most of Sunday. Sunglasses here, here and these are only $12! Tee similar here. It’s the first day of school, and my days of sleeping in until 7 are over. I got up to exercise at 6, and I wanted to be dressed and ready by 7. Didn’t happen. From wakeup to cooldown, exercising took an hour. I finished getting the kids out the door to school at 7:40 before I started getting dressed. I was ready by 8, which is too late on a day that I have to drive the kids to school. I don’t want to get up before 6. It’s too early. I’ve gotta figure something out. Do you miss jeans all summer like I do? I always prefer the look of jeans more than shorts. I love the layers and interest in this top. It has two layers in front and opens in the back. It’s also one of my favorite colors. For some reason I never want to wear it with shorts, only jeans. I’m so cold natured that the high of 86 today means it is jeans weather for me. Since several of you asked, I took some pictures of the after for my paint job. In the kitchen it’s looking greenish, but it’s not. The hallway pictures show the true color. I’m not photographer, and I just grabbed my camera really quickly. But just imagine me, on a ladder on those stairs in the last picture, hanging on for dear life while I painted and prayed I wouldn’t die. #neveragain Next step: the cabinets, if I can ever figure out what I want.
