Three-Quarter Sleeve Tops
I love spring. Oh spring, you fickle friend, what should we wear today? Well, that depends on her mood and in this three-part series about must-have items for transitional weather, we’ve talked about jackets, shoes, and today I want to talk about tops. When it’s too warm for a full sleeve and too chilly for a completely short sleeve, what are your options?
You can roll or push your sleeves up, or you can rely on one of my favorites; the three-quarter sleeve top. This is a three season item for me and they’re absolutely essential in spring and fall. Three-quarter sleeve tops come in sweaters, knits, blouses, they can be dressy, casual and everything in between. There is a three-quarter sleeve top for everyone and they are perfect for the shifting weather.Â
Another thing to love about them is that they can be layered when you need a little extra warmth or they can be warm by themselves. When it’s a little warmer they are the perfect in-between sleeve to keep you comfortable, and because they can match up to every level of dressiness, they pair well with flats, wedges, loafers, sandals, boots, heels, sneakers (pretty much every shoe) and that makes me love them even more. Let’s take a look at a few examples.
In the first example I’m wearing a fine knit sweater, and it’s perfect for dressing up. It’s versatile enough to wear with a dressy skirt or colorful pants. In the second photo I rolled up the sleeves on a button-up to achieve the three-quarter sleeve look. For me, I can only roll my sleeves if it’s a super structured fabric like this denim top. In the third example I’m wearing a crochet sweater, which is perfect for transitional weather because its breathable. The fourth photo is another three-quarter sleeve spring weight sweater. I wear all of these in the spring and the fall as well.
The first outfit below is another example of a dressier option with a three-quarter sleeve sweater. In the second example I’ve layered under my top with a button down, which is another look that I love! Three-quarter sleeve tops are a great staple to have in your closet, and it really does do so much to add options in your wardrobe.

The guide includes an easy color palette translation so that you can see what would work for your palette, and the shopping portal is sortable by items that come in different colors. It does take a little extra creativity, but the inspiration outfits can be tweaked for many things such as lifestyle, climate and color palette.
