Myth Busting: The All or Nothing Mentality

don't get stuck in the all or nothing mentality

“I can’t do my whole get ready routine in the morning, so I don’t even bother,” my friend told me. And she’s not the first or the last woman to say that to me.

“If I can’t get completely ready, why bother?”

I get stuck in black and white thinking about…everything. Many of us approach areas in our life with an all or nothing mentality. And getting ready every day could be one of those areas.

To defeat this mentality, I have ensured that I can get ready quickly every morning, and I have different routines depending on how much time I have. In this week’s video, I talk about the all or nothing mentality and how we can approach it from a getting dressed perspective.

This is article 5 in my Myth Busting series around getting ready. In prior weeks, I’ve busted the myths that

Getting ready takes too long

You can wear real clothes even if you worried they will be ruined by your lifestyle (kids, work, housework, and pets!)

Getting dressed has to be uncomfortable

You can have lounge wear and yoga pants…at the right times and places (I do!)

I get ready in just 20 minutes every morning because I don’t have more time than that.

  1. For me a big stumbling block to getting ready was taking shower after I worked out. I always got around to it but sometimes it wouldn’t happen until the afternoon and by then there wasn’t much reason to do my hair and makeup. So now I only shower at night. I use an after workout body oil and wash my face if I’m sweaty but it allows me to get ready in the morning. I also don’t wash my hair as often, around 2x per week.
