How To Transition Your Outfits From Summer to Fall

This week we’ve been talking about how to transition our outfits from summer to fall during this bumper season when the weather can be so unpredictable. On Monday and Tuesday I shared tips to bring fall into your wardrobe when it’s hot outside, and today I have another tip to cure your fall fever.

It was 9o degrees at my house on Monday, and today it’s 70 and rainy. This weekend we are headed back into the high 80s but the mornings are getting crisp. I sound like a weather girl, don’t I?

Well, it’s hard enough to dress comfortably for this kind of weather, but when you are dying to embrace the fall trends, it can be even harder, so today I’m sharing my third tip.

Join me each day this week (8.30.21 – 9.4.21) at 1pm ET on the Stunning Style Facebook page or the FREE Capsule Wardrobes for Classic Style Facebook Group for another Special Live and the next tip to transition your outfits from summer to fall!

Tip #3 - Go for the Fall Color Combinations

Combine your version of the fall colors to get that crisp autumn feeling. Red can be wintry when paired with black in a Buffalo plaid, springy and summery paired with white, and autumny when worn with navy and other fall colors. This same rule applies to all colors and all seasons.

How you pair these other colors will give the right seasonal look. The color palette I chose for this season’s Classic Wardrobe Guide brings in all the fall feels and I combine them for you to make sure you get the look you want. Some colors can feel more season-specific, like burgundy. It tends to be more of a fall and winter color and incorporating it into your wardrobe gives you an immediate fall look.

Burgundy and White

You can pair it with a summery neutral, like white, for a great transitional look when it’s still hot. In this outfit, I added a little bit of burgundy in my flats to an otherwise neutral outfit. It instantly takes this outfit into fall.

Burgundy and Cyan

Taking it a step further will give you even more fall options. It doesn’t have to be a large dose of either color, so if this combination makes you twitchy just know I like to push people to try new things. Wear whatever amount is comfortable to you to get that fall look.

In the first outfit, my top is from the new Fall Classic Wardrobe Guide and my jeans and earrings are also listed in the Shopping Portal available to Society members. I have burgundy in my lip color, my nail color and my earrings. Small doses of color is an easy way to incorporate a color you may not gravitate to often. If you want to take it up a notch and add a little more color, you can add burgundy flats. An even larger dose could be adding a bag.

Here is an outfit where I really go all out with color. I’m wearing a much bigger dose of cyan in my dress and the same burgundy flats. It could be reversed if you have a burgundy dress and cyan flats instead. This is a great way to transition your outfits from fall to summer.

Burgundy and Orange

Here I’m pairing orange with burgundy, and again the burgundy is in a small burst. It just depends on what you have in your closet. That could be an orange tee and black or navy shorts or skirt and you could bring that burgundy in any way you wanted to.

There are so many ways you can do this, but be sure to only choose colors that you really like. Don’t be afraid to experiment, because you might find a new favorite! Be brave, give it a little dose and see how you feel. It’s so fun to find something new that you love.

I hope this gave you some ideas on how you can incorporate color combinations into these transition months if the weather is not quite ready for fall, and you are!

I’ll be sharing a new tip each day this week, so join me at 1 pm ET each day for more ideas to transition your outfits to fall because the next tip could be the perfect one for you.
